The 2026 Chery Q is set to make electric motoring more accessible in South Africa, combining a compact SUV-style body with a fully electric powertrain, generous interior space and a strong list of technology features. Chery South Africa has positioned the Q as an entry point into electric mobility, with pricing starting at R349,900 for the Comfort model and R389,900 for the Elite.

The Chery Q is offered in two South African derivatives. The Q Comfort starts from R349,900, while the better-equipped Q Elite starts from R389,900. Chery's model range currently lists the Q at approximately R350,000, making it one of the brand's most affordable ways into an electric vehicle. 

Chery is also offering an introductory pre-order package. Qualifying customers can receive a home charging wallbox, a portable charger, a power tailgate and either a R5,000 charging card or up to R5,000 toward the vehicle deposit, subject to the applicable terms and conditions. The pre-order programme requires a minimum R5,000 deposit. 

The Q also comes with a seven-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, adding an important ownership benefit for buyers considering their first EV.

Electric Motor and Performance

Powering the 2026 Chery Q is a 90 kW electric motor paired with a 42.7 kWh battery. The motor drives the rear wheels, giving the Q a rear-wheel-drive configuration that should contribute to a balanced and responsive driving character. Maximum torque is listed at 115 Nm. 

Chery claims a driving range of up to 400 km on the NEDC cycle. As with any claimed EV range figure, real-world distance will depend on factors such as speed, temperature, traffic, terrain, driving style and use of the climate-control system. Charging is another major feature. Chery says the Q can charge from 30% to 80% in as little as 16.5 minutes using ultra-fast DC charging. That rapid-charging capability could make longer trips considerably easier, provided a suitable high-power public charger is available.

Inside, the Q adopts a modern, technology-focused cabin. The dashboard incorporates an 8.8-inch digital instrument display alongside a large 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen. The infotainment system uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor and supports features including gesture controls and a customisable interface. 

The cabin's design also prioritises usable space. A column-mounted gear selector frees up room around the centre console, while additional storage areas help make the compact EV more practical for everyday use.

Chery has also highlighted features such as magnetic accessory ports, HDMI integration and a modular cockpit concept. These details give the Q a more contemporary feel and help distinguish it from conventional entry-level cars.

Safety

Safety is another important part of the Q's specification. Chery says the body structure uses 82% high-strength steel, while the vehicle features six airbags and an IP68-rated battery pack. 

The Elite derivative adds intelligent driver-assistance technology and automatic parking functionality. Chery has also highlighted a 540-degree panoramic camera system, designed to improve visibility around the vehicle and assist with manoeuvring in confined spaces.
