Hybrid motoring is becoming more affordable in South Africa, with several models now priced below R500,000. The GWM Ora 5 leads the budget-friendly segment, followed by the Chery Tiggo Cross, BYD Atto 2 DM-i, Jaecoo J5, MG3 Hybrid+ and Omoda C5 HEV. These vehicles combine petrol engines with electric assistance to reduce fuel consumption while retaining the convenience of conventional refuelling. With increasing competition from Chinese manufacturers, South African motorists have more affordable electrified options in 2026.

Suzuki Auto South Africa is recalling 543 Grand Vitara vehicles following a fault that could prevent the low-fuel warning light from illuminating correctly. The issue may leave drivers unaware that fuel levels are critically low, potentially resulting in the vehicle running out of fuel unexpectedly. Affected owners are advised to check their vehicle identification number through Suzuki’s official VIN checker and contact an authorized dealer. The necessary inspection and corrective work will be carried out as part of the recall campaign.
